Some of my favorite designs never see the light of day

I was approached by the new owner of a local skating rink to create a logo and replace the back-lit panels in their double-sided street sign. The rink was within eyesight of my shop and I had already done many of the surrounding business signs. I really wanted the job and submitted several sketches with my bid without any real financial committment from the customer. They never replied to my inquiries and the building sat for years while being slowly remodeled.  I don’t believe it ever opened. It was eventually sold and more recently has been converted into a church.

A vintage Roller Rink sign provided the inspiration for the logo.

A sampling of sketches I did using different fonts and with the skate facing different directions. Although I preferred the vintage vibe of the red/green combo, the royal blue /lime was closest to their company colors.
